New Year in Japan ( in Japanese "O-Shogatsu")

O-Shogatsu,

It is pronounced “Oh-show-ga-tsu” . This means “New Year.” in Japan.
There are lots of New Year’s traditions across Japan.
As a tourist in Japan, maybe the most outstanding large scale tradition is most likely that of “Hatsumode.”
This means the tradition of paying a New Year day pilgrimage to local Shinto or (Buddhist) shrine to show appreciation and also ask for a New Year’s blessing.
